View from my coffee cup

May 16, 2026. I was sitting in a coffee shop in San Diego, California, sipping my usual black coffee, which tasted even better than usual. I had come to the city to attend my granddaughter’s commencement at San Diego State University.

The coffee shop was located at an intersection in the university village. As I sat there, vivid memories flooded back of rushing into a corner cafรฉ with my laptop to write my books. Unfortunately, I didnโ€™t have my laptop with me that day in San Diego.

The atmosphere was lively. Students came and went, grabbing breakfast on the run, coffee spilling, laughter, and chatter filling the air, complete with plenty of peace signs. I smiled, realizing that another chapter of my personal life was blossoming. My granddaughters are growing into wonderful young women, following in the footsteps of our ancestors.
