View from my coffee cup

In his classic book THE FOUR LOVES, Author, C.S. Lewis wrote:

Even if it were granted that insurances against heartbreak were our highest wisdom, does God Himself offer them? Apparently not. Christ comes at last to say “Why hast thou forsaken me?”

A fair statement. Folks like me believe in the give and take kind of love … someone buys me coffee, I feel obliged to reciprocate. In my mind that is friendship, and many may find it difficult to go beyond the “Friendshipgive and take.

Love may progress through AFFECTION, FRIENDSHIP, AND EROS (romantic), not necessarily in that order.   AGAPE, on the other hand, is God’s unconditional love for everyone … a love that cannot be humanly replicated.

Why am I musing about love? In my limited human way I  acknowledge that, our highest display of love makes all of us vulnerable.

How is your love?

  1. Sometimes, I strive to go beyond ‘give and take’. When I truly want to keep a relationship going, I will give a lot even without receiving nothing in return. I will ask myself ‘is this approach helping the person’ and if yes, I will give more than I would ever receive
