Three weeks ago, I gave up my morning coffee hour to reading blogs, persuasive e-mails, and listening to webinars about how to leverage my book sales by using effective marketing strategies.
Bestselling authors in all genre shared their knowledge and expertise, and all of them seemed to have the right answers about how to get readers to see and buy my books. These promoters of marketing strategies talked about the enormous volumes they’ve sold and the huge amounts of dollars that poured in. And, at the end of said webinars and/or blogs the truth appeared: Purchase my “package” for my online school and/or buy my book to fully educate yourself.
Those who are savvy might ‘pick up’ enough information from these webinars and blogs to figure out a thing or two about what might work for them. So, here’s what I figured out:
- New authors are wise to collect e-mail addresses from readers and potential readers to be used in future communications;
- Get readers’ consent before sending out promotional e-mail messages;
- Include information that benefits readers;
- Give a FREE gift (one of your books) as a reward when a reader writes a review of any (or all) of your books.
- Your e-mail list is a benefit and the least expensive means of marketing your work.
Here is the hard part; an e-mail list of less than 500 addresses is a bare minimum. Yes, I realize that for some folks it might be difficult to amass this amount of e-mail addresses… keep working on your list … get to 2000 addresses as quickly as possible!
Know that Bestselling authors are usually not the overnight successes folks think they are. ALWAYS REMEMBER …your personal e-mail list IS a big asset.
Have a warm and comfortable summer!

PS: My readers who are itching to read WATT TOWN ROAD (a memoir) — I’m still a bit nervous about letting it go — but, it’s coming soon.
